The Vineyard Always Knew First

The Duckhorns came to Merlot when few in Napa gave it a second thought, guided by what
they'd tasted in Bordeaux and what the land kept revealing season after season. They farmed
with patience, listened with intention, and let each vineyard find its own voice. Fifty years on,
that same instinct endures: to go deeper rather than wider, to work in kindred with the land, and to find joy in a craft that's never quite finished teaching.
Don’t Call it A Comeback

Call it conviction.
We’ve believed in Merlot since 1976. Not because it was trending, but because we saw what it could become.
For nearly 250 years, Merlot has been prized for its depth, color, and expressive beauty. From its early roots in Bordeaux to tables around the world, it has always been a grape of generosity and grace. Silky in texture, rich in fruit, and endlessly food-friendly, Merlot offers immediate pleasure and rewards patience in equal measure.
The Duck

From the beginning, the duck was never just a logo—it was personal. Inspired by the Duckhorn name and Dan’s love of the outdoors, it reflected a way of life rooted in authenticity and connection. A story of a duck traded for wine captures that spirit. Over time, it became a quiet signature—enduring not by standing out, but by staying true.
50 Years at the Table

For 50 years, Duckhorn has crafted wines meant to be shared at the table, an idea rooted in Margaret Duckhorn’s early love of hosting. Today, that spirit lives on through thoughtfully prepared meals, exceptional Napa Valley wines, and experiences designed to bring people together. Discover it for yourself through Gather & Graze at The Duckhorn Collection.

Remembering Dan Duckhorn
The Visionary Who Changed American Wine

Dan Duckhorn, co-founder of Duckhorn Vineyards and champion of Merlot, passed away on February 25 at the age of 87. For nearly five decades, his vision helped shape our winery, our wines, and the path of Napa Valley itself. His impact on American wine is profound and lasting.
Renée Ary
The Fourth Winemaker

As we mark Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day, and Duckhorn’s 50th anniversary, we celebrate the women who are shaping Duckhorn’s legacy. From learning at the side of founder Margaret Duckhorn to becoming just the fourth winemaker in the winery’s history, Renée Ary carries The Duckhorn Way forward, honoring tradition, crafting acclaimed vintages, and mentoring the next generation.
A Barrel, A Bid, A Legacy

In 1997, Dan Duckhorn stood alongside fellow vintners and imagined a trade gathering that would showcase Napa’s most distinctive wines and give back to the valley they loved.
That idea became Premiere Napa Valley.
Nearly thirty years later, we returned with a special Three Palms lot in celebration of our 50th anniversary. The lot sold for $54,000 as part of a $3.3 million week supporting the Napa Valley winemaking community.
For us, Premiere has never been just about a barrel or a bid. It’s about the people in the room. The growers. The winemakers. The friends who believe this valley is worth investing in.
Fifty years in, we’re still grateful to be part of it.
A Love Letter to Merlot

Every great love story begins with a feeling.
In the 1970s, Dan Duckhorn fell for Merlot in the hills of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, and carried that love home to Napa Valley.
That belief took root at Three Palms, grew across our vineyards, and deepened with time. Trends came and went. Our love for Merlot never did.
Fifty years later, it’s still the wine we come home to.
Here’s to the love stories that last.
From 1976 To Forever

In 1976, Napa Valley was a very different place—quiet, unpolished, and full of possibility. That same year, a young couple arrived with little more than a deep love of wine. Guided by curiosity and conviction, Dan and Margaret Duckhorn set out to craft wines that reflected both their passion and the emerging promise of the valley they chose to call home.
What began in a modest shed on their property has grown into a celebrated community of wine lovers around the world. Over the decades, Duckhorn has helped define the standard for American fine wine, grounded in craftsmanship, shaped by time, and inspired by a relentless pursuit of quality.
